MONSTER UPDATE

Good afternoon! How are you? As you may have noticed, I haven't posted new Daily Monster Papers this week, and I wanted to send you a quick update. On top of my day job I'm also working on two new books right now, and making a bunch of Monsters that I can't quite show you yet. So it's been a bit more hectic than usual. What I didn't want to do is knock out a bunch of half-assed Monsters in the meantime, so I'm taking a few days to get on top of my other work. But the Monsters will return shortly. Please stick with me. -- Thank you for your patience!

In the meantime, I give you an new creature by Ricardo Gomez of Argentina, who's got a cool site of his own. Excellent, isn't it?

Have a great weekend, and please remember that 344 LOVES YOU

BETAPALOOZA: THE NEW OPEN SOURCE MONSTER SECTION IS NOW ONLINE

Osminterface3

Good morning. Remember how you used to have to send me your Open Source Monsters and then wait for me to get off my duff to post them to the blog? And remember how that sometimes took forever? Well, that's all in the past now. No more of that! Friend of the Monsters Tim Moraitis has been working overtime to cook up a whole new upload interface for you. Now you can post your Monsters without having to wait for anybody! It's a new feature!

It's a beta right now, so please let me know your thoughts. Tim has posted some of the existing Open Source Monsters already, and we'll add most all of them in the coming weeks. But that's the archival stuff. I'm excited to see what new Monsters you'll cook up. To that end, there is a new Open Source Inkblot waiting for you in Album 24.

Why? Because 344 LOVES YOU

39 NEW OPEN SOURCE MONSTERS (FINALLY)

Good morning. My face is crimson with shame. Over the past five months you've sent in hordes of great Open Source Monsters, and I've not been posting them. What can I say? I fell asleep at the switch, and I have no excuse for it. But if nothing else, I can finally make it right and post, post, post!

Please say Hello to 39 brilliant Open Source Monsters!

Good morning. What with all the preparation for the Monster Book and the Return of the Daily Monster I've been shamefully remiss in posting for you all the great Open Source Monsters that have been coming in over the last few weeks. Well, that's about to change right now. Feast your eyes on a whole menagerie of excellent creatures! It's no surprise that 344 LOVES YOU

OPEN SOURCE MONSTER 23

Good evening. How are you? While I'm noodling around on Weekly Monster 123 for tomorrow, I thought I'd finally post the great Open Source Monsters you sent me for Blot 22, along with a new blot for you to play with.

If you haven't thrown yourself into the giddy frenzy of monster creation, maybe this is your week! Here's how it works:

Download OPEN SOURCE INK BLOT 23, print it out, and have at it in any way you like: Draw, paint, origami, film, sculpt, create a dance for it. Just scan, photograph, or otherwise document the result and send it my way at [email protected] and I'll put the result on the blog right here. If you can, please make your file 480 pixels wide. If you can't, don't worry about it.
I'll resize it for you.

In the meantime, please take a look at these excellent drawings for OSM22:

and just made his own damn monsters!

NEW OPEN SOURCE MONSTERS (FINALLY)

Good evening. How are you? I hope the holiday madness is beginning to settle into more of a holiday coziness. If you're a giver of gifts, I hope they're all wrapped and/or mailed, and that you can finally take a breath. So it is with me over here at Monster Headquarters. I'm skipping the festivities myself, but those who are getting gifts from me are taken care of. Except for you, of course.

Over the past two months I've been shamefully remiss in keeping up with the Open Source Monsters. Emily, Tiffany, and James sent beautiful new monsters well over a month ago, and as you'll see the Watkins Clan is poised to become for the monsters what the Carter Family were to country music. Well, now that things are a bit calmer around here I finally had the chance to format all the monsters for display, and to catch up on a few of my own.

I also have a new Open Source Ink Blot for you. So if you're in need of a little escape from your yuletide obligations, you can go to town with this PDF right here.

I can't wait to see what you come up with! If you haven't made a monster of your own yet, maybe the slow days between the holidays are the perfect time to get in on the action. Here's how it works:

Download OPEN SOURCE INK BLOT 22, print it out, and have at it in any way you like: Draw, paint, origami, film, sculpt, write an orchestral score for it. Just scan, photograph, or otherwise document the result and send it my way at [email protected] and I'll put the result on the blog right here. If you can, please make your file 480 pixels wide. If you can't, don't worry about it.
I'll resize it for you.

Here are my own versions of Open Source Blots 7, 17, 19, 20, and 21. I already did No.19 a while back, but it slipped my mind, so I did it again. Luckily, it turned out completely different from the first time. See what you think:

Lastly, art student Chris Comper asked me if he could make a few of his own monsters for a school assignment. Who am I to say No? Take a look at the cool monsters he came up with:
