DAILY MONSTER 99 (of 100)

Good morning. And a Happy Saturday to you! I hope you'll have some fun today! Depending on your location, you may be eligible for making snow angels, or, if you live in my neck of the woods, you could go to your nearest healthcare provider and get yourself vaccinated against Oscar Madness! Fun, either way. (I kid! I love the Oscars! There are some great people to root for this year, too.) But before you get caught up in any of that, I think you should check out yesterday's monster stories:

In addition to the stories, Jon Stevensn sent some fan art.
I like the way it's perching on the wire binding. Take a look:

We're also starting a new little thing today. Yesterday I got an e-mail from Charlotte Saylor: I would propose a small side project where you post one of the inkblots in a downloadable file that people could print and draw the monster they envision. It would be interesting to see how people create differently from the same source material. Is there but one type of monster to be born from each initial canvas?

I think that's an excellent suggestioon, Charlotte. So here is the first downloadable ink blot for you. Print it out, manipulate it on the computer, draw on it, animate it, make it into a piece of sculpture. Let the monsters come out any way you feel them. Have fun! (And when you're done, send me a file and I'll post a little gallery for each blot here on the site once a week.)

Monster 99 has secrets. It's a creature of questions! Where did it come from? Where is it going? Where is the rest of it going? Who are those little guys on deck? Where is all that liquid coming from? What's with the bubbly exhaust? Why the giant teeth? What is its purpose?! Please! Somebody!! TELL ME!!!

For the second-to-last time I will let you in on what's up next:

As you know, there will be a book about this whole series and you can't get into the book if you don't post a story. So if you haven't joined in the fun, this is your chance.

Due to the nature of old school print media, it'll take a few months to get the book produced right. But I would love to keep you informed about the project in the meantime. I'll post news here at the site, of course, but if you like, please send me a message at monsterbook@344design.com and I'll make sure you're the first to get the book when it becomes available. In fact, if you put yourself on the mailing list, I'll send you a custom monster desktop picture---full color and everything!---by the end of the week. (Which is now. The end of the week is now and I'm getting this ready. Yes, I will!)

This is almost it. Only one more Daily Monster left to go. Please join me one more time tomorrow for the Grand Centennial Finale--- the 100th Daily Monster. For the love of blown ink, don't miss it!
